“Cinema that no longer has a country” Micro‑Website
The Cinema of Yugoslavia is a micro website and a concept archive of ex‑Yugoslavian film. I made it for my Interactive Design class during my Erasmus studies, when I was deep into film and missing home just a little bit, and I wanted to share Balkan culture with the people around me. And what better way than movies? Everyone likes movies.
The
Idea
Since we could pick the topic, I made the brief myself and it was: make something cool, simple, FUTURA, a little old school, FUTURA, and above all, pretentious. And use Futura, of course. So I use black and white images, one shade of red that does all the shouting and bold clean typography.
Process
Not gonna lie, I had a Pinterest board, a moodboard and a dream. But I also had a wireframe I sketched on a piece of paper, so it counts as a process. I just visualize things in my head sometimes, and wing it. Once the structure was down, I just went crazy with the archive pages, the film entries laid out like newspaper spreads, a history lesson section at the start of the page and archive like documentation for every film.
End
Result
The end result is a lil micro web archive with some of the movies I watched and thought were cool. You can flip through some of them on the side if you’d like! Also, fun anecdote: I remember my professor scolding me for making this entire thing without a grid and just placing everything based on feeling and intuition.
