emxys — ODALISS patch design lockup
Graphic Design Animation 2025

Second patch, second mission — and this time with lasers.

After the DARK patch, a referral brought me to EMXYS, a Spanish company from Elche that also builds satellites. One of them is ODALISS, a satellite that sends data back to Earth by laser instead of radio. My job here was to design and animate the mission patch. The brief was, not even kidding, “make it epic.” And I could totally work with that.

What is ODALISS?

ODALISS is EMXYS’ small but serious spacecraft that talks to Earth with an infrared laser, moving data far faster than the crowded radio bands most small satellites rely on. OTD‑1 was the mission that put it to the test in orbit. The patch’s motto, very straight forward, is… connecting to space.

There were even more sketches, but here are some of my favorite. I tested out different options, this time aiming for a more literal composition and more straightforward design. My main inspiration were Soviet space posters. Those are pretty epic, I’d reckon.

OTD‑1 carried the ODALISS platform to orbit, my second design for something that’s leaving the planet. Not a bad streak for someone from a country with a non‑existent space program.
