A personal project born out of a creative slump.
I’ve always loved book cover design, album artwork and neo-classical and Frasurbane poster aesthetics I’d see on Pinterest. These posters were a little challenge I set for myself to get back into simply creating art by taking a classical painting/artwork I love, and reinterpreting it through modern typography and graphic elements.
Process
I started each design with one of my favorite paintings (except the Jubilee one, that one was the first and it was a stock image…) and picking out a song that I felt went really well with it. At the time, I was really into Dead On A Sunday, Creeper and just horror rock/punk in general, so I had a huge playlist to choose from. The idea was to experiment, reference some Frasurbane posters I found on the internet that I really liked, and just see where it all takes me. At the time, I just wanted to see what I can do with a single painting, typography, geometric elements and a whole lot of filters and masks in Photoshop. My favorite bit was definitely adding all the tiny details, alignment and little tweaks that made the whole thing look complete – the devil is in the details!

Result
A series of posters that sits somewhere between a museum exhibit banner and a metal album cover, exactly what I was aiming for. I think my slump ended somewhere around poster two and I just had way too much fun making these. Hover over any poster above to see the painting it started from.
